Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS) Workshop

Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS) Workshop

April 21st – 23rd, 2010 at Melia Purosani Hotel – Yogyakarta

Instructor:

Jerison Silitonga

OVERVIEW

A Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) study is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing process or operation in order to identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel or equipment, or prevent efficient operation.

The HAZOP technique was initially developed to analyze chemical process systems, but has later been extended to other types of systems and also to complex operations and to software systems.

A HAZOP is a qualitative technique based on guide-words and is carried out by a multi-disciplinary team (HAZOP team) during a set of meetings.

OBJECTIVES

The main focus of this course is to develop and understanding of HAZOPS, its methodology and its place within the overall process design and safety management, and to identify the roles of the HAZOPS Team Leader and Participants/Members. These will be achieved by through a powerful combination of case studies, group discussions, presentations and interactive workshops. After attending this training course, the participants will be able to :

Understanding of HAZOPS Concepts and Methods Understand and familiar about Risk Management Understanding and implementing Hazard Identification (HAZID) & Hazard Analysis (HAZAN) and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) Conduct HAZOPS effectively and efficiently.

CONTENT

Introduction to HAZOPS and its advantage over other types of Safety Review. Basic introduction to the risk assessment process Different hazard identification techniques Hazard & Operability Study: Basic Concept & Methodology, Terminology The role of the chairman, secretary and the team members Risk ranking at the HAZOP study HAZOP process in detail including the follow-up and review process Detailed look at the HAZOP process Introduction to technique for procedural HAZOP Procedural HAZOP exercise including discussion of results HAZOP actions/recommendations and HAZOP reports Introduction to the HAZOP 2 technique Advantages and disadvantages of the HAZOP technique Pointers for effective HAZOPs Course review including question and answer session

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Project Design Engineers Process Engineers Production/Operations Engineers or Supervisors or Superintendents or Managers Electrical & Instrument Engineers Piping Engineers Safety Engineers Anyone who concerned with the safe and efficient performance of potentially hazardous Plant and operations.
