Well Log Data Intepretation Analysis
FORMATION EVALUATION
WELL LOG DATA INTERPRETATION ANALYSIS
April 12th – 15th 2010, at Harris Kuta Hotel – Bali
Instructor:
Doct-Ing. Ir. Supomo M. Atmodjo
OBJECTIVES
Well logging, although implement various principles in practice, but basically is dedicated to one common goal to measure certain physical parameters of rocks being drilled continuously in order to get interested information concerning the formation, their porosity, permeability and the nature of containing fluids.
With the recent trend to build an effective synergy in Geophysics, Geology and Reservoir Engineering approach, the Formation Evaluation is becoming more and more challenged, not only in their contribution to refine horizons and layers definitions in geologic modelling, but also in defining indispensables parameters for perforating intervals selection, which is usually related to a certain production target.
In this context, this course is designed for the log analyst, geologist and engineer who has experienced working in a team or is being prepared to work in a synergy team. However this five days course develops the capability for independent work in application of Formation Evaluation to exploration and production problems. The emphasis is on illustration by examples and case histories.
COURSE COVERAGE
1. Review of log measurements and response relations with emphasis on log principles, records and quality control.
2. Review of interpretation techniques covering both the standard techniques and cross plotting techniques.
3. Porosity cross plotting techniques for rock typing and effective porosity determinations using the porosity relations for all dual combinations as well as the tri-porosity combination.
4. Shaly sand interpretation.
5. Review of basic flow assurance, including wellbore damage estimation, gross & net sand determination, sorting perforation intervals candidates and flowrate estimation.
6. Perforation technique, including the strategies, methods and recent available supporting services.

INSTRUCTOR
Supomo Mangun Atmodjo, is an Associate Professor of the Petroleum Engineering Department, Institut Teknologi Bandung and is one of the pioneers in developing the Formation Evaluation courses in that department from the beginning of his career as a university lecturer in 1970. He has been giving lectures in various courses of the Formation Evaluation for both the undergraduate and the graduate programs.
His education background was exactly concordant with the requirement needed to develop such courses: he earned a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering Institut Teknologi Bandung with a thesis on “Formation Damage caused by various mud systems at Elevated Temperature” part of which was completed at pt Caltex Pacific Indonesia, Rumbai Pekanbaru in 1969. He obtained a Diplôme-Ingenieur degree at ENSPM (École Nationale Superiéure du Pétrole et des Moteurs), a grande école of the l’IFP (Institut Française du Pétrole) at Rueil Malmaison, Paris, France with a thesis subject “Computerization / instantaneous “d” exponent calculation from mud logging” at Ponson-Dessous, southern France in 1972. He completed his Docteur-Ingenieur degree from USTL (Université des Sciences et Technique du Languedoc) Montpellier France with a dissertation topic “Geologic interpretation of the Thermal InfraRed Imageries” as a part of the research program for launching the first French’s earth imagery satellite SPOT in Toulouse, France in 1980.
He has been actively involved in establishing the Formation Evaluation Laboratory at the department. He is the chairman of the Formation Evaluation Interest Group which emphasizes the researches on the microscopic laboratory studies covering from wettability to low resistivity pay.
He has been also actively involved in ITB consultant projects for oil and gas up-stream ventures as the Formation Evaluation specialist since 1980 ; with the most recent significant works included the support for the Plan of Development of the famous Tangguh gas field for bp-Berau, a Gas Reserve Certification of the OffShore North- WestJava for bp-ONWJ, the Tiaka field study for Exspan and the Zamrud & Pedada fields for BOB BSP-Pertamina and also some re-assessment of several Pertamina’s “brownfields”.
Currently he is an advisor / a lead assessor in Formation Evaluation in the Engineer Certification Committee of the IATMI (the Indonesian Petroleum Engineer Association).
We would very much appreciate if you could join us in this course or pass this information to your colleagues who might need these courses.
